Top 25 Greatest Villains by TIME

came across this page today so wanted to share it and give some comments about it

Palpatine // Darth Sidious
In my eyes, a good played villain in a movie can mean more than the lead actor. Throughout the history of cinematography there have been many kinds of different villains. Here is an interesting list that TIME made. I pretty much agree with there list :) However, there are many more (sometimes funny) villains that should have been included perhaps ^^

Hannibal Lecter
Top 25 Greatest Villains by TIME

George Siegmann as Silas Lynch
Peter Lorre as Hans Beckert
Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West
Joseph Cotten as Uncle Charlie
Barbara Stanwyck as Phyllis Dietrichson
Ann Savage as Vera
Marcel Herrand as Lacenaire
Lionel Barrymore as Henry F. Potter
Denis Price as Louis Mazzini
James Cagney as Cody Jarrett
Toshiro Mifune as Tajomaru
Prithviraj as Justice Raghunat
Carl Boehm as Mark Lewis
Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Iselin
Robert Mitchum as Max Cady
Henry Fonda as Frank
Klaus Kinski as de Aguirre
Laurence Olivier as Dr. Christian Szell
Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator
Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman
Anthony Wong as Wong Chi-hang
Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goeth
Ving Rhames as Marsellus Wallace
Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter

Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine

However, I still haven't seen some of these movies so I can't really comment on certain villains. Some that come to mind as the best are Palpatine, Hannibal Lecter, Amon Goeth, Wicked Witch of The West...

Amon Goeth
I included a few images of them! Enjoy!

What are your favorites?

Falling Down

Watched Wall Street Money Never Sleeps, and as Michael Douglas stars in it I got reminded of this awesome movie

plot:
"William (aka D-FENS), an unemployed, divorced engineer in the defense industry, just wants to get home to see his daughter on her birthday. Unfortunately, nothingseems to be going right for him. Stuck in traffic, he finally snaps. He gets out ofhis car and begins a walk through L.A. D-FENS begins to fight back against the everyday "injustices" he encounters on his journey home. When a unhelpful Koreanshopkeeper "doesn't give change" he demolishing the store with a baseball bat. Soonhe finds himself in gangland, and deals with some tough-looking gang members byattacking them. When the gang members try to retaliate, it fails when they crashtheir car and D-FENS takes their guns. A retiring cop (Robert Duvall) is on histrail as D-FENS heads towards Venice for his daughter's birthday."

This 1993 movie is one of my favorites. It is a story about a man going on rampage basically because all of the flaws he sees in the society. Lead role is played by Michael Douglas, he is exceptional. No doubt it is also Joel Schumacher's best film. The movie itself is at times funny yet at others quite sad. Definitely worth a watch!

I give it 8/10! Very good!

Heres the trailer:

Don't most of you wish you could just give up on everything and try to get your order? :)

P.S. Is there any follower addon/program or something that you suggest me for use(to assist me and make it a bit clearer)? The classic feed is getting a bit out of control :S

Red Riding Hood // New Trailer

plot:
"Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family's displeasure."

When I first saw the trailer I thought it might be interesting. The plot looks okay, actors also. However, the only thing that kinda questions me is will be it similar to twilight(which I can't stand). It has the same director. I can only hope this turns out to be okay at least.

Here's the trailer:

Trainspotting

This was one of the movies I gave you to choose earlier! Transpotting got the second most votes =]

Plot:
"Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends."

This 1996 movie is a really shocking one! Danny Boyle (The Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, 28 Days Later, The Beach) has done a great job on directing this. He is able to touch a rough subject through firstly seeming totally on it's side and them slowly switching to a graphic and brutal look into heroin addiction. Portrayal of drug addiction is done through often funny moments. One of my favorite parts of the movie is it's soundtrack. It has a good mix of music in it. Ewan McGregor does a great job as the lead role. Other actors portrait there characters pretty good as well!

However, this is not a film for kids. At some points it is really brutal. I believe everyone should watch it.
I give it 9.2/10
Excellent!

My favorite quote from the movie:
"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?"

Memento

After the mini pool you people have chose Memento! Good choice!

plot:
"A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife."

This is the movie that launched Christopher Nolan's career. It is a highly innovative story about a man seeking revenge over people who have killed his wife. However he has short-term memory loss and the only way for him to figure out anything is to write down everything and get tattoos. The acting is excellent! The movie it self is basically a puzzle. One of the most interesting things is that it starts from the end. Making it even harder to watch.

I suggest this to everyone who likes psychological thrillers as it is one of the best in my opinion.
I rate it 9.1/10
Definitely worth a watch!

here's the trailer!

P.S. As trainspotting got a lot of votes it might be one of the next movies i review. If you have any suggestions please say! How did you like this movie if you have seen it?

And I have a question for you. What movie should I feature next?

2. Memento
3. Trainspotting

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

Another book adaptation!

Plot:
"Earthman Arthur Dent is having a very bad day. His house is about to be bulldozed, he discovers that his best friend is an alien and to top things off, Planet Earth is about to be demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Arthur's only chance for survival: hitch a ride on a passing spacecraft. For the novice space traveler, the greatest adventure in the universe begins when the world ends. Arthur sets out on a journey in which he finds that nothing is as it seems: he learns that a towel is just the most useful thing in the universe, finds the meaning of life, and discovers that everything he needs to know can be found in one book: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

To those who haven't read the book this movie might confusing. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy (book, Douglas Adams) itself is confusing nonetheless. However, it is one of the most interesting books I have read. The movie does an okay-ish job at taking it to the big screen. There are still many bits of the book that just can't be transfered. Overall, the film is enjoyable, however, there are many flaws. I still recommend everyone to watch it!

Here's the trailer!

I rate it 6.2/10!

Seen it? Yay or Nay?

Priest & I Am Number Four // Trailer update

Firstly I want to say thanks for all the support you people are giving, I really appreciate it :)

Today I got two trailers for you:

First one is the new graphic novel adaptation called Priest. The plot seems interesting. I haven't read the original novel but I have high expectations of this. I like the dark tone of it :)

Plot:
"PRIEST, a western-fused post-apocalyptic thriller, is set in an alternate world -- one ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires. The story revolves around a legendary Warrior Priest (Paul Bettany) from the last Vampire War who now lives in obscurity among the other downtrodden human inhabitants in walled-in dystopian cities ruled by the Church. When his niece (Lily Collins) is abducted by a murderous pack of vampires, Priest breaks his sacred vows to venture out on an obsessive quest to find her before they turn her into one of them. He is joined on his crusade by his niece's boyfriend (Cam Gigandet), a trigger-fingered young wasteland sheriff, and a former Warrior Priestess (Maggie Q) who possesses otherworldly fighting skills. --© Sony"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second trailer for today is "I am Number Four" which is an adaptation of a book. Although it looks all flashy and nice I have a feeling this movie will fail. However, I will watch it for sure as I love those type of movies. The plot seems okay and I'm interested to see how it is executed. Enjoy!

Plot:
"Three are dead. He is Number Four. D.J. Caruso ("Eagle Eye," "Disturbia") helms an action-packed thriller about an extraordinary young man, John Smith (Alex Pettyfer), who is a fugitive on the run from ruthless enemies sent to destroy him. Changing his identity, moving from town to town with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant), John is always the new kid with no ties to his past. In the small Ohio town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected, life-changing events-his first love (Dianna Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to the others who share his incredible destiny. John (Alex Pettyfer) is an extraordinary young man, masking his true identity and passing as a typical student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already been killed...he is Number Four. -- (C)Dreamworks"

Watchmen

Yet another comic book adaptation!

Again it is based upon an Alan Moore comic book as is V for Vendetta! Weird thing is that he does not approve any of his novel adaptations, because he says they do not do justice to book. However, he has no right to them as he had written them while working for DC Comics.

plot:
In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot.

Directed by Zack Snyder(300), this nearly 3 hour movie is visually striking. The story is very well switched from the novel to motion picture. This is not a classic superhero movie, actually it is mostly a dark, gory and complex tale of morality. One of the problems with this movie is only that it's complex narrative structure might not appeal to everyone. I have both seen it and read the comic book a few times. To some it may appear slow but towards the end it gets better.

here's the trailer:

I rate it 7.5/10

Worth a watch for sure! :)
(It is pretty graphic just so you know)

P.S. For those of my followers who I have not followed yet please post your url in the comments, because many of you have not linked your profiles and when i try to enter I cannot find the url to your blog.

Fight Club

many people have complained about my "worst movie" post. therefore, I give you a great movie!

Story:
A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground "fight clubs" forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion.

Directed by David Fincher (Se7en, The Social Network, Zodiac...) this movie could hardly do wrong! Directing in the movie is led to almost perfection. The movie holds an outstanding plot. Acting is yet another great thing is the movie. Both Edward Norton and Brad Pitt do a great job. Let's not forget about Helena Bonham Carter and her exceptional role of Marla Singer.

Heres the trailer(bad quality but eh what to do):

Whoever hasn't seen this movie please do(I had an aversion towards this movie and denied to see it for a while, I thought it was just another boring fighting movie, however I thought wrong)! It is worth it. To about the 3/4 of the movie you will be quite questioned. I can watch the movie over and over and it never gets boring. Dialogs in the movie are exceptional. The final scene in the movie is for sure one of my favorite ending in cinematography (+ it has one of my favorite songs in it).

I give it a 9.3/10! Excellent!

WARNING!!
Do not read/find spoilers if you have not seen it. It will ruin the movie a bit :)

Have you seen it? If yes what do you think?

Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000

yet another request, this time for a movie i utterly dislike, from: Aaron the Baron (take a look at his blog too), keep the requests coming :)

When I first got hold of this movie I though whoa Travolta in a sci-fi movie, this could be good. However.. Let's maybe stay on however.

After watching this movie I was in utter shock. How could they have made something this awful? Firstly there is almost no plot which is just horrible. The acting is yet another story, haven't seen it be so bad in a while. Might be one of travoltas worst films.

The special effects are horrible. They tend to be serious but it all looks so dumb it's unbelievable. There are costumes on comic con or a sci-fi convention that are MUCH better then these awful costumes in the movie.

Just ugly and horrible, don't know what else to say. Seriously..

Take a look at a highlight video posted on youtube.. sad just sad:

I give it 2.5/10 and I still think that is pretty high.

Rarely it happens that I flame and dislike something but this is just that bad. Be prepared if you wan't to watch it.

Anyone seen this and actually liked it a lot?

P.S. Added lightbox to the images! hope you like it!
P.S. 2 Thanks http://intemperate-folly.blogspot.com/ for including me in your post about 3 cool blogs! It means so much to me! I also suggest this site to everyone! Take a look and you wont regret it :)

Equilibrium

Another sci-fi! I guess you figure out what I like to watch :)

plot:
"In the nation of Libria, there is always peace among men. The rules of the Librian system are simple. If you are happy, you will be arrested. If you cry, the law will hunt you down. If you read a contraband book or so much as look at a smuggled painting, you've committed a crime. To keep the peace, citizens must take their daily doses Prozium, a powerful designer drug that stops feelings dead and keeps everyone on an even keel. Refuse to take the drug and special police will find you. Up until now, top-ranking government official John Preston has believed in this system, has upheld the system as a highly-trained "Cleric" who seeks out and destroys those who don't take their pills. But then he skips his own dose of Prozium--and discovers an incredible new world of sensation that gives him the passion to fight for freedom."

Well well, what to say about this movie. I like it quite a lot. Even though there were many flops in the movie I think the director (Kurt Wimmer: The Thomas Crown Affair, Ultraviolet, Salt..) and the whole team did quite a good job. Many people have flamed this movie of being unoriginal and just plain bad. Christian Bale does a good job as usual to portrait his character! I think everyone should give it a chance =]

I rate it 8/10, would have been less, but as a sci-fi fan i gave it this :)

Heres the trailer, enjoy!

Super Size Me

100 Followers! Woohoo! Thanks people! On to the documentary:

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is on a mission to eat only McDonald’s food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for thirty days. No exceptions. (That includes vitamins and aspirin.) He must eat every item on the menu at least once; and every time he is asked if he wants it “super sized,” he must say yes (although he won’t ask for it.) Further, he will limit his exercise to only the amount of walking per day of the average American.”

When you think about the plot of this documentary however naive it seems, in the same way it is ugly. This quite shocking film shows exactly how bad McDonald’s and junk food can be on your system. After filming the initial 30 days he had suffered a lot. He started to get heart problems, weight issues and everything that comes along.

Among all of the food documentaries this one made the most dust rise up. After this, McDonald’s reduced it portion sizes, especially in Texas where they had super super Size. They also introduced salads witch was unheard of before that. Even though he has done harm to himself, the author of the documentary proved a point and he certainly did a good job, considering all the changes that happened. It also shows that some things can be changed with images rather than politics, even though everyone knows the whole junk food industry is a political issue.

I would like to hear from you about junk food and it's impact on people. Do you think the problem can be solved?

P.S. I usually don't do documentaries but I believe this is one that you should certainly watch!

Metropolis

The starter of science fiction.

Metropolis (1927) was the first movie with a theme based in the future. The whole design of the city and the robot was amazing for that time. All future dystopian movies owe a debt towards the director of this movie, Fritz Lang. The movie Metropolis is very remarkable in many respects.

“Together with the huge sceneries which were built as high as two meters, some such as the gigantic heart machine for the production of the energy were built in life size. The architecture is doubtless one of the most important aspects which forms the fascination of this movie. The buildings and the environment were created by the great Otto Hunte, Erich Kettelhut and Karl Vollbrecht as well as Walter Schulze-Mittendorf, who was responsible for the roboter and the sculptures.

Taken everything into consideration many future films like Dr. Strangelove were highly influenced by this. It is a true masterpiece.

I have seen parts of this movie so far. However, I read a few days ago that earlier in 2010 they remastered a part of the movie that was very rare. Fact is that there are only a few copies left in the world. In 2008 they have found a 16mm copy of it in a museum in Sao Paulo, the original copy. When it was shown in the US the movie initially was cut from 153 minutes to 90 when it was first aired. When they collected all the bits together they have finally released a full version last year.

Gonna see this these days definitely, actually found a 720p copy =]

Anyone else seen or at least heard of it?

A Clockwork Orange // Mind-fuck movie request //

Haven't done this yet! A follower requested me to post a certain type of movie! Guess what? It was one of my favorite types. Pure mindfuck! Sorry for my language :)

The Life Of Bearon gave me a request to post some similar type of movie. Well here it is.

Even though some of you might think this is a cliché because it is a very popular movie, especially because it was done by Stanley Kubrick (2001 A Space Odyssey, The Shining, Lolita, Full Metal Jacket.. ). This 1971 movie is based on Anthony Burgess's disturbing novel about England in the totalitarian future, Malcolm McDowell portrays Alex, a Beethoven-loving, head-bashing punk who leads his gang of droogs on ultra-violent assaults--until he is captured by authorities and subjected to nasty behavior-modification therapy.

I rate it 9.5/10!

This is definitely a movie worth taking a look at! Among all the controversy it raised when it was released it is also the starter of cyberpunk movies, another interesting genre I like.

Here is the trailer:

Pure Mindfuck! Enjoy!

P.S. Post types of movies you would like me to post! Thanks For all the support!

Vanishing on 7th Street - Trailer

Another trailer update!

I usually like movies where Hayden Christensen plays in. Based on the trailer it looks quite interesting! Will go to the cinema when it comes out for sure. I'm a fan of these kind of movies :)

The Plot:

"When a massive power outage plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, a disparate group of individuals find themselves alone. The entire city's population has vanished into thin air, leaving behind heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. Soon the daylight begins to disappear completely, and as the survivors gather in an abandoned tavern, they realize the darkness is out to get them, and only their rapidly diminishing light sources can keep them safe."

V for Vendetta

"Remember, remember the 5th of November. The gunpowder, treason, and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

This movie is another comic book adaptation. I do like the comic more but nevertheless the movie is great.

V for Vendetta is a dystopian thriller with a political theme. The story is placed in futuristic London where the government uses fear to elicit cooperation from the people. Later on smashed by a man in a mask. Natalie Portman does an exceptional role in the movie as well.

It is not a usual movie. Most people don't want to see this movie because they think it's rather boring or stupid. Well, I thought the same until one year ago. Movie shocked me totally.

Worth watching!

I rate it 8/10

Enjoy!

P.S. Thanks for the many comments on the posts below this! It gives me motivation to keep posting and posting! Thank you!

The Big Lebowski

Jeff Bridges and John Goodman. Do I need to say more?

This portraits a few people and their lives. Coen brothers did a great job writing and directing this movie. They made it somewhat a black comedy. If you ever feel down or something take a look at this movie and I guarantee you will have some fun! Worth watching!

I rate it 8.5/10

District 9

One would say: "darn another stupid alien movie!"

When the movie came out in 2009 I pretty much thought the same when I first saw the poster. Well that is where you are tricked.

The movie has a completely new idea about people and aliens living in a way together. It is one of the most inventive movies in the last couple of years. The mix of politics with all of the sci-fi is awesome. Also it is filmed in a rather weird way, at the first part presenting itself merely as a documentary movie. While later in the movie everything changes.

I ain't giving spoilers!
Only thing I can say is that you must see it!

Here is the trailer:
