The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

Another book adaptation!

Plot:
"Earthman Arthur Dent is having a very bad day. His house is about to be bulldozed, he discovers that his best friend is an alien and to top things off, Planet Earth is about to be demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass. Arthur's only chance for survival: hitch a ride on a passing spacecraft. For the novice space traveler, the greatest adventure in the universe begins when the world ends. Arthur sets out on a journey in which he finds that nothing is as it seems: he learns that a towel is just the most useful thing in the universe, finds the meaning of life, and discovers that everything he needs to know can be found in one book: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

To those who haven't read the book this movie might confusing. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy (book, Douglas Adams) itself is confusing nonetheless. However, it is one of the most interesting books I have read. The movie does an okay-ish job at taking it to the big screen. There are still many bits of the book that just can't be transfered. Overall, the film is enjoyable, however, there are many flaws. I still recommend everyone to watch it!

Here's the trailer!

I rate it 6.2/10!

Seen it? Yay or Nay?

  1. I have to say I was kind of disappointed. There were a lot of people hyping this movie up, and when I finally saw it, it was meh.

Decent storyline, I suppose, but people were saying it was the next Star Wars or something.

  2. I really need to see this movie. I started the book "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" back in the 8th grade, but I never finished it. If I see the movies, then at least I'll know what was going on, ha.

I follow and support those who do likewise.

  10. There was also a tv series, that i think was on the BBC based on this book, and it is available on DVD. I thought the movie was ok, but I really liked the tv series. I think it was made in the early 80's or something like that.

  13. You know I have read the entire series written by Douglas Adams, and it's no secret that I dearly love science fiction especially when it is attached to humor in this manner. However I thought this movie was merely OK, I know it's difficult to translate books well into cinema but it seems to me they cut a few corners here, can't wait to see restaurant at the end of the universe in the theater anyway though. Great post!
