Sin City

Sorry for not posting yesterday! Had some issues with time, same goes for checking your blogs!

Yet another comic book adaptation!

plot:
"Four tales of crime adapted from Frank Miller's popular comics, focusing around a muscular brute who's looking for the person responsible for the death of his beloved Goldie, a man fed up with Sin City's corrupt law enforcement who takes the law into his own hands after a horrible mistake, a cop who risks his life to protect a girl from a deformed pedophile, and a hitman looking to make a little cash."

As you can see I tend to watch all these adaptations :) The movie is directed by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Desperado, Machete). It also sports quite a casting crew, Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro and more. People have quite a shared opinion on this Frank Miller's comic book adaptation.

I'd say I'm more on the side that I agree that Rodriguez has done a good job with it. The visuals are just wonderful. The mix of black and white with certain elements of color just add another depth to the movie. It is also Very violent, some like it, some not. However, I think it was needed to transfer the original story to motion picture. I also love the trashy element of the movie! There are a few flaws with the plot and acting, which I think Rodriguez could have done better.

All in all a solid 8/10. Definitely worth watching!

Here's the trailer:

P.S. If you've got any comic book adaptation you could suggest me, please say!

edit: Oh and watching the grammys now, will give some thoughts about it tomorrow!

  3. Sin City was a pretty good movie. The Watchman was a good movie, brought straight from comic book but it does not have the same kind of comic book effect that Sin City has.

  10. really enjoyed Sin City! I can't compare it to the comics though, because I never read them.
Hellboy 1 and 2 might be good movies to take a look at.

  12. This movie i love! Great post.
    A suggestion:
The movie "Jonah Hex", have you ever heard of it? It is a film based on the comic character Jonah Hex, very good.
Also very nice is "Immortal", a film based on Enki Bilals graphic novel "The carnival of immortals", the A. Nikopol stories... probably not for everyone but i liked it :)))

  15. That was a crazy movie. It was one that if you didn't have any idea what you were getting into beforehand it might actually get you feeling strange later. I wouldn't recommend it to just any viewer either; must be the sci-fi and otherwise creative thinker type... Good one, you've summed it up well.
