The Prestige vs The Illusionist // Part 1

Sorry again for yesterday, almost had no access to the PC, you can also see I haven't checked any of your blogs yet :/

I will start the review with The Prestige.

plot:
"In the end of the Nineteenth Century, in London, Robert Angier, his beloved wife Julia McCullough and Alfred Borden are friends and assistants of a magician. When Julia accidentally dies during a performance, Robert blames Alfred for her death and they become enemies. Both become famous and rival magicians, sabotaging the performance of the other on the stage. When Alfred performs a successful trick, Robert becomes obsessed trying to disclose the secret of his competitor with tragic consequences. "

The movie is directed by Christopher Nolan. The number of good actors is really surprising in this film as well. The Prestige scores, Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson... and even a surprisingly good play by David Bowie as Nicola Tesla. As you can guess the story is about two competitive magicians. It would be a normal movie is they were only trying to copy each other with new tricks and stuff. However, there is so many elements added to this movie to make it interesting.

I don't want to make this a review containing spoilers because I see this movie as an experience and everyone should watch it and then get an opinion for themselves. Giving out any spoilers about The Prestige would be ridiculous. All I can say is you have to watch it! The last scene can really shock you when you figure out how some stuff worked in the movie!

I give it 8.5/10!

Tomorrow I will be doing a short review of The Illusionist and I will compare it to this movie.

How did you like the movie?

P.S. I will check all you posts a bit later! got some more stuff to do first =]

  5. This movie was good, I've seen it twice. I like that you're comparing the two. I've seen them both but can't really remember the other, but I do recall them being similar.

  6. They are similar in theme and setting, but the mood and plot vary. With Nolan directing, it's a great film, but the edge still goes to The Illusionist.

  7. I was genuinely surprised in a good way when I watched The Prestige. It has a very solid, unpredictable plot, and even a little bit of sci-fi in it.

    Tesla is a boss.

  14. This is in my top 10, I've seen it many times and enjoyed it every time. It's good to watch it twice. Without spoiling it, the second time you see it the film falls into place and you see all the things which tell you about the twists and turns that you didn't notice the first time round, rather like Fight Club. I defy anyone not to like this film!!!
It knocks spots off of The Illusionist

  36. Nolan has successfully infused something unique to magician film as he himself is the magician of filmmaking. I completely agree with your review.
