Answer about viewing the feed

For those who haven't seen it take a look at yesterday's first part of The Prestige vs The Illusionist Take a look

Anyway a few days ago I asked you guys how do you few feed from other blogs, I personally now chose to use Morning Coffee (simple addon on firefox). And I have to say my thoughts are so so. After taking me 3/4 hours to sort out all of the blogs I follow into two groups, one that are active and the other ones that aren't. After finally finishing that and pressing the morning coffee, I was kind of in shock when I found out I follow about 160 active blogs.

Later it took me 3/4 hours (or even more) just to view and comment all of those (and I've still got about 30 blogs to see). Which brought me the question? I never get that many views or even comments. There are some of you who view my posts every time and I'm grateful for that. So in the next week I will be using that addon and later I will do a re arrange again and view only the people who do the same for me.

Thanks to all of you!

Oh and, The Prestige vs The Illusionist side to side review part 2 coming later tonight or tomorrow morning!

Have a nice Saturday!

  2. sounds like a good tool. Some of the followers I have are those giveaways ones, they just click follow but never bother to read or reply and my current blogger updates shows only those and I miss out many.
This sounds like a useful tool to me:)

  3. I follow about 400 blogs I've found out and get about 20-30 comments per post but not everybody comments, some people are just readers because when I checked I get about 500-700 page views per day. I comment on people who comment on my blog always and visit ones I like even if they have never commented on mine.

  5. Dont worry bro, I'm one of those that view your blog everytime you have a new post

  6. @The Angry Lurker, I thought the limit was 300, anyway I hardly get 150-250 views a day at max, and I use sites like facebook to promote my blog on my page. Weird!

Thanks Chris and the rest :)

  8. I use the blogger dashboard, I hate complicating myself with other stuff.

  9. I tried morning coffee but it just kept crashing my browser...so like Teutorix I use the blogger dashboard to view everything new in a 24 hour period - commenting where possible...but then I also comment where people have left comments on my blog.

But if you find an easier way, share the love

  10. no no no. morning coffee is great if you view like 50 or so, but when you get into the hundreds i find it annoying. Here's a tip that works in chrome or FF.

Add all the blogs you follow into folders in the bookmark toolbar. break it down into a manageable amount. i have a folder called blogs1 with the first 75, then blogs2 with the next 75, then blogs3, and so on.

right click on the folder and go to "open all in tabs" work through each folder at different times of the day, whenever you're free.

i normally don't like to spam my links but if you use FF you might wanna check out this post for some other helpful addons:

  12. Ah, Doo, the number of people who visit sites and those who comment is always drastically different. I have an average of 1200-1700 visitors every day and just about 20-30 comments :) That's totally natural, most people just read, think of yourself, when you visit big movie sites you probably just read and do not comment. That's why the number of visitors is much more important that the number of comments or followers.

  13. I'm with you Doo - I follow too many blogs and there are just not enough hours in each day to comment on them all so I concentrate on keeping up with the people who comment on mine... and it's so easy to accidentally find ten more awesome blogs to follow every day! This is like a full time job! Sarah xxx

  14. I'm in the same boat dude, it's hard to keep track of all your followers, I do my best to visit everyone and I know you run a pretty active blog, just try your best

  20. Thanks for the post, today i learned a new addon for viewing active blogs :D

  21. this is the specific reason i posted that I might not be on for a month. I am such an addict that I couldn't possibly turn down every opportunity to come around and take a look. Being new I think I follow only the people who comment on my blog close and are consistent commenters. If they aren't commenting, I don't currently have time to go check out what they have going on. I like to think that by checkin those ones out, I am only looking at serious bloggers who have a real thing for close interaction with the people they share information with. I was thinking I would get that program too maybe someday in the future when my blogging gets out of hand, As I certainly assume it will.

    Have a good day.

  22. I'm just starting with my blog, but I already use the addon. I find it so much easier to follow blogs this way. I can find everything that interests me in just one click.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I follow/am followed by over 500 - impossible to visit everyone and it usually takes me 3-4 hours a day to hit 100. Learn to set a time limit now or it will get out of control real quick!

  24. Great tips! I'm going to check out this addon. I know it sucks when you support people and they don't reciprocate.

  25. I don't really use morning coffee or anything, I just organize blogs into sets of 10 into folders. Bloggers that regularly comment on my blog (fans)get put in the top 10 folders and I make sure I get to them everyday. For the others I get to them usually when I have the time, usually at least once every few days to remind them I'm there.

  31. im gonna check that add-on never heard of it

  32. I've only recently started using Morning Coffee myself...and it's just hard to keep up with everything I'm following. I don't think I have a large enough following to just say "yeah...I'm going to only keep people who comment on me" just yet. But hopefully some say soon!

  33. That's an add-on for Firefox? When everyone talked about "morning coffee" I thought "these people sure drink a lot of damn coffee."

    ReplyDelete
  34. I really do actually think morning coffee is useless when you could just be using folders, and folders have an advantage that you can sort by what's important to you, bloggers that you are close with.
I (sadly) use feeds, on google feed reader. Every blog I follow are automatically added to a folder on google reader. So every few hours I open up the folder and push 'n' until something gets my attention, then comment. There are a few downsides, like formatting doesn't go into feeds, and blogs like Doodle's just end up looking like a wall of text, an amazing blog I don't have the ritalin to get through.

PS: I prefer the Prestige, because tesla/bowie!

  42. It's funny you say that because I don't even follow many and it's hard to keep up. Just think, if this is just one social outlet and it eats up that much time, how can we have time for our friends on facebook or, heaven forbid, real life? It's about balance and it's so hard to weigh everything out fairly. You can only do what you can. How could you write on your blog if you commented on every single post of everyone you follow?

Side note, have you seen Departures? I would love to hear what you have to say about it.
